Mixing and recording woes: Assitance please

Posted by moonvamp - September 24th, 2013

So, I've been trying to audition for new projects ever since I got my rough draft of the script. However, I've been noticing now how much the quality of the recording has really been suffering. In the past, my louder moments never peaked, and yet when I hear them while I'm mixing them, they sound............bad. Really bad. I don't know if it has to do with my microphone, my multimixer, my microphone cord or my mixcraft mixing software. So, I've been in a funk with this scenario at the moment. It's been like this ever since I got my laptop repaired. So, if anyone has any suggestions for perhaps a new microphone, a preamp for either the new microphone or the one I currently have, or just some mixing tips with Mixcraft, that would be awesome.

I currently have the following:

Studio Projects C1 Condenser Microphone
Alesis Multimix 8 USB FX Mixer
Mixcraft 5.2
Audacity (for noise removal)
